Waterloo Street

After a lengthy journey through the town planning process, the approved, built design was one of much reward.  Being passionate about the design and winning over planning enabled this family home to be built as envisioned.

A smart floor plan with well connected spaces ensured the function of this home worked to its best ability. The ground floor comprising of the common areas spill out onto a substantial deck and low maintenance landscaped area. Built up against the commercial 'Dulux' building it neighbours, the home was able to eliminate the harsh westerly sun and open up and unfold to the north and easterly aspects.

The concrete wall that acts as the 'spine' along the westerly boundary leads you into the dwelling and a narrow, but lengthy glass skylight is mimicked directly below it with a void from the first floor that casts subtle light playfully along the spine wall.

Bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs creates excellent zoning.

The material palette was specifically kept to a minimum to ensure the details, such as the timber battens on the first floor read as critical elements, and the large expanses of glass blend the inside with the out.

Commented on by many a passer by for its street presence, this dwelling has provided a well functioning and beautifully detailed home for its occupants and has maximised the site.  Almost 10 years old....it highlights the timeless quality of the design.
