A contemporary new build in a heritage area. With the various constraints that a heritage overlay can place on a site and clear direction from clients that they would like a contemporary design for their new home. URSPACE has produced a design that merges traditional design elements and building materials and executed it in a contemporary vision which sees clean lines and a sleek contemporary addition to the streetscape that fits seamlessly with its heritage styled neighbours.
Stripped back gable ends of varying heights and materials create interest to the frontage while paying homage to the traditional style roof that is repeated throughout the streetscape. Boundaries are blurred between inside and out with large glazed walls which not only bring the outside in, but allow the desirable 'northern aspect' to be maximised. Seamless movement throughout the floor plan zones areas well. Sleek lines with bespoke joinery further enhance the contemporary living so highly desired in today's world.
"My wife and I chose UR Space to design our new house in George Street Newtown and we couldn’t be happier with that decision. Despite our relatively small block of land and some restrictive Council rules, Marija was able to design a modern, spacious home that can be easily adapted over time to meet our changing life requirements.
Marija has an incredible ability to visualise the spaces she is designing, which results in rooms that are well lit, visually appealing and comfortable. By making smart choices regarding materials and construction methods, Marija was able to keep costs down whilst maintaining the contemporary feel that we were looking for.
Based on our experience, I would highly recommend Marija for the design of any residential building project, from minor renovations to new dwellings. I was not surprised that Geelong Advertiser’s GT Magazine featured our property."
